Rapid response seals service cuts plant downtime for the offshore industry

PPE offers a rapid response seal design and manufacture service for the oil and gas industry. Oil and gas companies and their suppliers are now able to call on customised seals in days where previously they would have had to wait weeks for deliveries. The rapid-response service reduces plant downtime and production delays caused by seal failure.

Seals play a vital role in pumps and valves, protecting bearings and eliminating leaks. But their application doesn’t stop there. Preserving the integrity of oil and gas downhole and production samples and subsea pipeline linking seals are just two examples. The increasing role of seals has placed them at the forefront of offshore production. As a result, standard O-ring seals are often replaced with customised seals designed specifically for an application.

Until now oil and gas companies have had to commit to buying large quantities of seals, waiting weeks for customised seals to be imported, and discouraging new applications for seals. PPE’s service is designed to meet the immediate needs of oil and gas companies for small quantities of customised seals and encourage new applications.

From its manufacturing plant in Blackburn, England, PPE is able to begin production of new seals within hours of an order. PPE also specialises in seal development and design with in-house tooling, drawing on over 25 years experience of working with the oil and gas industry.

"The demands of oil and gas production are pushing the boundaries of seal performance all the time. We often receive urgent calls from companies searching for new seals. These are produced quickly, sometimes overnight and either sent by courier or flown to Aberdeen. The rapid response service builds on our experience of working with oil and gas producers to very tight deadlines" says, Peter Cloney, General Manager, Precision Polymer Engineering.
